SUEZ, in Salem, has won its largest water contract in India, which will serve more than one million people

Transforming water access in Salem, Tamil Nadu: a milestone in sustainable urban water management 💧

We are proud to announce SUEZ’s largest ever water supply project in India: a landmark 25-year concession contract with the Salem City Municipal Corporation, valued at €456 million. This transformative initiative will provide over 1 million people across 91 km² with clean, reliable drinking water, delivering 155 million litres per day and ensuring 24/7 access to water for residents.

Our work will include:

✅ rehabilitating intake structures, water treatment plants and pumping stations;

✅ replacing 1,800 km of ageing pipelines;

✅ constructing 26 new service reservoirs and upgrading 39 existing ones;

✅ installing water meters in over 230,000 homes;

✅ integrating advanced digitalisation and automation systems to optimise water management and enhance customer responsiveness.

This contract builds on SUEZ’s proven expertise in India, drawing on our eight years of successful operations in Coimbatore, and reinforces the power of public-private partnerships in tackling India’s pressing water scarcity challenges. Currently serving 65 million people daily – around 13% of India’s urban population – and holding a 10% share of the municipal water market, SUEZ is deeply committed to innovation, resilient infrastructure and sustainable solutions that protect precious water resources and enhance quality of life.

Together with our partners and communities, we are paving the way for a sustainable water future in India and beyond.
