  • Watch – NEW WATER DESALINATION AND FILTRATION TECHNOLOGY

Watch – NEW WATER DESALINATION AND FILTRATION TECHNOLOGY

The innovative technology, called NanoseenX uses specially created nanomembranes which have the ability to trap impurities and salt in their pores and are arranged in cascades inside a cylindrical device in order to utilise the force of gravity to carry out the filtration, removing the need for the use of energy or pressure.

It is world’s first technological solution for the purification and desalination of water without the need for an energy source, with potential to help solve worldwide freshwater shortages. ……

The Nanoseen scientists produce 30 types of NanoseenX nanomembranes adapted to the function / processes for which they will be used.

Nanomembranes are mixed matrix solutions created from a combination of many types of nanomaterials (also obtained by the Nanoseen team) –  their high quality, purity, homogeneity, strength and appropriate properties adapted to the water purification and desalination processes are essential.

Depending on the salinity of the water and / or the level of its contamination, from 2 to 20 nanomembranes are used, which are arranged in cascades or as a “sandwich”.

  • Solar Panels Over Canals to Save Some Water

Solar Panels Over Canals to Save Some Water

    Source : Gizmodo

A water and electric utility in central California will install a first-of-its-kind network of solar panels on water canals. Turlock Irrigation District (TID) has secured a $20 million grant from the state to pursue the first-in-the-nation project, which could serve a beneficial double whammy: create renewable energy and save some water in the process…..
    ….
It won’t fix the serious water use problems or the mounting threat climate change poses to water supply, but it does represent the kind of creative solution countries of great drought need to explore as it stares down a water-scarce future.

Next Green : Showers That Use Recycled Water

    source : Time.com

Imagine taking a long, hot shower without wasting water and energy.

That’s the guilt-free promise of a recirculating shower, which continuously filters, sterilizes and reuses water that would otherwise go down the bathroom drain. The technology reduces water consumption up to 90% and energy use by 80% compared to a conventional shower, according to manufacturers of the devices.

“We are addressing two of the problems the world is facing, climate change and water shortages, without sacrificing the shower experience,” said Troels Grene, chief executive officer of Flow Loop, a Danish company that has developed a recirculating shower called the Eco Loop.

Water, Megacities and Global Change – 2nd International Conference Online

Bringing together scientists, policy makers, operators, basin authorities and civil society to address water security and global challenges in Megacities

Paris, New York, Beijing, Mumbai, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Mexico, Lagos… all Megacities – urban centers which accommodate more than 10 million inhabitants – are facing “mega”-challenges related to providing water services for their inhabitants, while managing their environment. Climate change effects of intensifying magnitude and global challenges such as sea level rise, increasing temperatures or urbanization, threaten these cities. Now, there is a need for action to achieve resilient cities……

A transversal and multidimensional solution is proposed, based on the collaboration among scientists who advance knowledge, operators and basin authorities (in public and private sectors) who innovate technically and socio-politically, and local politicians who can support new, fairer and more efficient models of water governance, in constant interaction with civil society……
